I found this book to be both clearly written and insightful. It helped me significantly on a practical level. The case studies were provided both vivid and interesting illustrations of the different pacts made within an organization.

A must for every business manager!

This book offers helpful insight into creating corporate change that is supported by the work force. It is a must for every manager, employee and people interested in the dynamics making change in the business world. This book contains many enlightening, even humourous case studies which accompany the theory. Strebel's book is a refreshing change from traditional, dull management books. If there is one book this year that will make you a more effective manager, this is the it. Buy it or get left behind.

The most Honest and Helpful business book I have ever read!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-15
If you are starting a business or are currently running a business Cheat To Win is incredible. It is simply a book that will show you how to be successful in your business, written by a man (Robert W. MacDonald) who has already succeeded in building up his own insurance company (LifeUSA) which was eventually sold for $540 million dollars.

Cheat To Win cuts through all of the hype and explains how to truly build a business up according to your own terms and not to fall in to certain traps that can destroy an organization. It shows how to truly lead by empowering others, not by ruling them.

I highly recommend this book and have already begun incorporating some of these guidelines to help imrprove my own software company (di-Doolicity Innovations).

A MUST READ FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

ANYONE TRAPPED IN HIS OWN ENVIRONMENT NEEDS TO GET THE EXPERIENCE OF THIS BOOK. CORPORATE CONFUSION, LACK OF DIRECTION, BUDDING GENIUS,SHOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THE INTENTIONS TO MOTIVATE AND INSPIRE RAW TALENT. A LAUGH A CHAPTER, AN IDEA TO EXPAND, AND THE EXPERIENCE OF THE WRITER ARE WORTH THE FEW HOURS IT TAKES TO REALLY READ THIS BOOK. YOU'LL WANT TO READ IT AGAIN AS I DID TO REALLY APPRECIATE IT'S WISDOM. BUY IT FOR ALL YOUR FRIENDS WHO YOU KNOW HAVE THE ABILITY TO WIN, BUT LACK THE CONFIDENCE.NOT FOR LOOSERS.A WIN WIN FOR THE READER.

A must read for doing business in china

I just finished reading "The Art of Law" and it is definitely one of the best books on doing business in China that's out there. Practical, educational and entertaining. Mr. Schaub obviously has extensive experience in the PRC and is able to offer valuable insight to both new China hands and experienced entrepreneurs.

Practical and interesting to read

Review Date: 2008-02-08
This book is geared more towards medium/large companies trying to set up operations in China (with or without a JV), but I found it insightful and interesting as an individual entrepreneur as well. Rather than just state what the laws are as in some books, it analyzes what happens in practice as well, and most of the material is supported by funny true anecdotes (not so funny if it happened to you). In fact, the whole book is really funny while not detracting from conveying information about serious business concepts. It gives many examples of the kinds of messed-up stuff that can happen in China. For anyone looking to understand more about the legal issues regarding how foreign companies set up and maintain operations in China, this is definitely a worthwhile and pleasant read.

When you check out the colleges in this book, be sure to also check out West Point. It's the best kept secret. To learn more about it, get the book, "West Point: Character, Leadership..." by Norman Thomas Remick in addition to "The College Board .. Book".

Nice job

This is a great arrangement. The book is almost unnecessary. Just plop the CD in your computer, fill out the personal survey and the program gives you a list of all the scholarships (that college board has in the book) that pertain to you - as you described your history and interests in the survey. It tells you the basic info, due dates, etc. THEN you can link by internet to the scholarship site to get the full story if you think you qualify for that particular scholarship. Many applications are online and you can download or submit directly. This is terrific.

Excellent * Awesome * get this book * apply the principles of this book

I have both editions of this book, the older edition and the newer revised edition. And each time I read this book it was with trepidation.
Each time I was aware that the grains of the hour glass were slipping by.
This earthquake, which Larry Burkett was speaking & warning about was coming closer and closer and yet no one seemed to be listening.
Larry Burkett just used common sense in writing this book: You cannot go on spending more than you earn. He warned this collapse was coming.
He wasn't a prophet, he didn't know exactly when it would come, but he said it was coming. And now, his very words have come to pass just as he said would happen. And our government representatives are still not listening to him, or other reputable financial advisors. They are still spending more than anyone can afford. They are still behaving foolishly at our expense. Maybe we have the government we deserve.
Get this book, read this book, apply the principles set forth in this book, take care of your finances and forget the government. They are only out for themselves. They are after all residing in Washington D.oesn't C.are

The Prophet

Burkett delineated growing federal deficits and the ever increasing use of debt by business and households out of control. Burkett points out those severe economic times will appear sometime shortly after the millennium unless current polices are changed. Burkett believed that Keynesian economic policies, with ideals for continuing federal deficits and the implicit preference for higher levels of consumption, reduced saving, and a larger role for government in the economy are a means to disaster. As Burkett states in the book that as interest on the debt consumes a larger and larger portion of the yearly federal budget, and more money is borrowed each year to pay the interest on what was borrowed in previous years, there will be a temptation to "monetize" the debt at an increasing rate leading to a calamity not seen since the Great Depression. Burkett questioned whether or not elected leaders would take action in time to prevent fiscal chaos, and believed they would not.

This book really provides great help in the difficult task of communication and negotiation between and in businesses. You can read it one chapter at a time, and putting it all in to practise step by step, or do as I did: read it all in one go, and then again!

The content is divided in logical areas so that councelling is easy to find when needed. Although not new, still very up to date and hugely useful.

Great help for my business!
