A Quick and Dirty Introduction to Accounting Methods
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-06
This is one really great book in an impressive series of publications. Everything you need to know to have a passing familiarity with accounting statements is presented in easy read and understand fashion. After reading this book, you can use and understand some of the more basic jargon of business, investment and finance.

As is the tradition with every great business book, the text ends with Chapter 7 (you know, of bankruptcy fame!). Each chapter presents a different aspect of financial statements, beginning with the income statement, the balance sheet, and the statement of cash flows, and integrates the three to demonstrate how they can be used for financial analysis, inventory tracking and allocating for depreciation. Each chapter starts by explaining the topic fully, and offers several examples of its use in actual business practice. Although the book is a slim volume, it packs a lot of information, being brief, to the point and insightful all at the same time. Additionally, its small size also means that it will not take up too much space on one's shelf of must-have and must-keep books.

I highly recommend this book to anyone having the need to understand financial statements at a glance. Interested readers should also check out some of the other titles in the Agile Manager Series which may be helpful.

Enlightining source for alliance management
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-16
I am currently writing my PhD dissertation on alliance management and success. For the literature review part of my project, I have read many sources related to inter-organizational issues. I have found many of them relevant to my dissertation. However, since it is very challenging to find a source which relates academic studies to business practice, I have had hard time to justify my points. Mark Darby's "Alliance Brand" is such a source that you can find many recent alliance practice examples; besides, the book provides many well-established and well-recognized academic publications. I was very fascinated when I found well-cited academic journal papers in the "Alliance Brand." I made more sense of the current alliance practice in today's chaotic business world. Writing a PhD dissertation in business is very challenging, because, as my research philosophy, you have to show that there is something "outside" regarding your hypotheses. You need rigid empirical results for your proposed hypotheses. "Alliance Brand" has assisted me in this process. I was very joyful when I saw my thoughts in this book. I highly recommend this book to all researchers interested in alliance management and practice. It is a great guidance to researchers and, it is very well-written and structured.

America's Last Call, On the Brink of a Financial Holocaust

Economic Prosperity as a Prelude to Judgment
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-15
Having had no new visions, no new dreams, nor special revelations relative to the end of our current age, David Wilkerson looks now to the lessons of history to demonstrate and conclude that the United States of America is ripe for imminent divine judgment characterized in this writing as a dramatic economic meltdown. Perhaps THE leading, Christian, prophetic voice of our time declares: "The American dream is going to turn into the American nightmare. It will occur suddenly--without warning--and no one will be able to explain how or why it happened" (back cover excerpt).

In AMERICA'S LAST CALL, ON THE BRINK OF FINANCIAL HOLOCAUST (hereafter ALC) (Lindale, Texas: Wilkerson Trust Publications, 1998), the seer/author examines the writings of the Old Testament to discover that Israel and Judah, Sodom and Gomorrah, and even the antideluvians of Noah's day all evidenced a common condition as the prelude to their final destructions. The final, common condition that preceded God's destructive judgment upon these civilizations was economic "prosperity!" This insight may come as a shocking and unpleasant surprise to many Chrisian readers who often interpret material abundance, and prosperity in general, as a sign of God's unmixed blessing and sanctioned approval of them personally and our American society-at-large. This kind of response, Wilkerson argues, is exactly the same response that God's "chosen people" of Israel and Judah exhibited when informed by the prophets of their day that God was bringing judgment upon them. Many will find chapter eight ("Misreading the Times") especially unsettling precisely because the warning of calamitous upheaval and reversal of personal or national fortune is so nearly unthinkable to even the discerning Christian who has perhaps come to enjoy and rely upon the fruits of his earthly abundance more than is appropriate to a "child of God" destined for heaven.

The prose of ALC is easily read and composed in the seer's usually compelling style. I highly recommend ALC be read by everyone concerned about "the economic signs of OUR times" and how they relate to God's coming judgment upon the United States of America. The message of this 141-page book is concisely contained in the following ten descriptively-titled chapters:

1. America's Last Call
2. The Crippling of the American Economy
3. America has Crossed the Line
4. Payday for the Shedding of the Blood of Innocents
5. The Ominous Rise of Militant Homosexual Power
6. The Prophets have Warned Us
7. Historical Warnings: The Destruction of London
8. Misreading the Times
9. Perfect Peace in a Time of Panic
10. Knowing God's Voice: The Secret to Surviving the Coming Crash

Hear Him! The One Hundred Twenty-Five Commands of Jesus

As a former student of Professor Detemple and a former professor, he is simply one of the best organized, most articulate, and without hesitation, one of the truly talented teachers and authors I have ever met.

I just bought the book, and eagerily await its delivery. If his book is as wonderful as he is, I expect a truly outstanding book.
